Blacklight: Retribution

Blacklight: Retribution is an online first-person shooter that is available for free, being a sequel to Blacklight: Tango Down, a game that was released in 2010 as a downloadable title.

Zombie Studios created an intense and accomplished game, erasing most of the defaults from the first title. The experience offers a clever mix of old and new mechanics, resulting in a gameplay that may look classic at first but that is completely changed with the introduction of the HRV, a special vision mode that allows players to look through walls. If there’s a way to prevent campers and discourage them from using this infamous tactic, then this is the way. The HardSuit is another addition that varies gameplay. Sort of a mini-mech, this hulking machine has a strong defense capability and huge firepower.

Blacklight: Retribution is powered by the Unreal Engine 3, capable of offering detailed visuals and a consistent sci-fi setting not very far from actual retail releases, complete with heavily armored soldiers and a deluge of smoke, lighting and explosion effects.

With this free-to-play shooter, Perfect World has a nice addition to a catalog that was mostly comprised of MMORPGs, and one that has some quality to boot. Fast-paced and with good visuals, Retribution is a solid entry to the genre.
