What Makes You Tick? - Free PC Game Review

What Makes You Tick? - Free PC Game Review - Free PC Gamers - Free PC GamesWhat Makes You Tick? is a point and click adventure game by Matthias Kempke, created using the LASSIE engine. It’s also completely free and a nice addition to the collection of those who appreciate games classics like Monkey Island or Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

The player is a young man named Nathan who is sent by his university to warn a scientist that he may be in serious danger. But, suffice to say, we won’t find this doctor soon enough, and the story has a few surprises up its sleeve.

The first thing you’ll notice when starting the game is the dark tone of the visuals, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t a sense of humor – it does, I can tell you that. However, when Nathan starts walking, he seems to lack frames as he does it in a shabby way. Not to worry though, the remaining animations are more detailed and consistent. A brief look at the beautiful sea or weaving curtains is enough to reassure us. The story takes place only at night, and it can be finished in less than two hours.

Interaction is completely easy. Pressing the left button brings a pop-up of the three possible actions: look, use and talk. We won’t need more than this to happily navigate the game world. Below the game screen is the inventory, hidden until we move the mouse in the area. There are also dialogues with some characters – and even a guest star – and one conspicuous reference to the hero of adventure games, Guybrush Threepwood.
